Viewpoints by Gwendolyn McCoy, at John Hancock
Gwendolyn McCoy is the U.S. Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for John Hancock, the U.S. segment of Toronto-based Manulife. She is responsible for executing the company’s DEI vision and strategy and helping inform talent recruitment and development practices to foster a more inclusive workplace. In her role, she will work collaboratively across the business to support expansion into new markets and identify training opportunities. She is a member of the U.S. Leadership Team.
Ms. McCoy has a wealth of professional experience at the intersection of business, entrepreneurship, talent management and DEI. Most recently, she was a senior consultant with Diversity@Workplace, where she partnered with domestic and international firms to help improve their talent acquisition, retention and strategies. Previously, as a senior manager of Talent Acquisition, Diversity and Inclusion with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, she built and managed signature programs focusing on career development and female empowerment.
Ms. McCoy earned her MBA from Bentley University and a graduate certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell. She is very civically engaged, serving on community organization boards and volunteering her time to other important causes including Cornerstone Collaborative Boston, a socio-economic community ecosystem focused on eliminating poverty and community violence.
